Description
Elephant Garlic (*Allium ampeloprasum* var. *ampeloprasum*) is not a true garlic (*Allium sativum*) but rather a variety of the wild leek. It is named for its massive size, producing bulbs significantly larger than those of standard garlic. Each bulb contains large, easily peeled cloves. Its flavor is much milder, sweeter, and more delicate than traditional garlic, often likened to a subtle blend of garlic and onion. Due to its mild taste and size, it is excellent for roasting whole, slicing into salads, or baking. When left to grow, it produces an impressive, tall flower stalk topped with a striking purple globe of small flowers.
